Words of Encouragement
What makes you bent out of shape?
To be bent means to be out of its normal position; to be crooked.
How good are you when you are bent out of shape?
When a spoon is all bent out of shape, it's not much use for anything. You can’t eat a scoop of ice cream nor a bowl soup.
Luke 13;10-13 tells us of a woman who were bent out of shape.
HOW WAS SHE BENT OUT OF SHAPE? SHE WAS CRIPPLED BY SATAN
She has a spirit of infirmity; she was crippled by the spirit of the devil. She appears to be a woman who was oppressed by the devil physically and perhaps even spiritually.
Jesus uses the word “infirmity” it’s the word that means “weakness”.
Her weakness was caused by demonic influence. She is a picture of how the enemy of our souls the ‘accuser of our brethren’ as he is called in Revelation can attack and harass and press down upon a person.
When you are in the grips of the devil, he wants to cripple you; he wants to disable you and make you of no good or purpose in life.
This world is crippled by the spirit of Satan; you can see his hand print all over it.
HER CONDITION AS A RESULT OF BEING BENT OUT OF SHAPE
This woman had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years; this woman had one of the worst illness recorded in the Bible.
She had a chronic ailment and she was in a desperate condition.
This condition made her helpless.
In the Hebrew text, it says that she is "bent double". This illness prevented her from being able to look up. Her view of life was the ground.
When you are in the hand of Satan, your view and path are downward.
When you look around and see what is happening today, you will see this same type of condition in world’s point of view; our world’s values; and our world’s character.
When you are bent out of shape, you are in Satan’s hands.
BENT WAS NOT BROKEN
Even she was so bent out of shape, she was not broken.
In these verses, I see 3 things that took place toward this woman’s freedom from the bondage of the devil:
1. We need a word from Jesus
When Jesus saw her, he said to her, “woman, thou are loose” which means that she was set free from your infirmity.
Jesus is speaking to us a country; he is speaking through this virus; he is speaking to us through our trials and circumstances.
He wants to straighten us up.
2. We need a touch from Jesus
Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up
Jesus placed his hands on her, and the immediate response was that she was made straight
This bent out of shape lady experienced the "lifting love" of Jesus
It was the touch, laying on hands.
3. We need to praise him for what he has done
This text teaches us that Jesus Christ can fix our lives and give us an identity.
Just like this woman, we can be straightened again.
There will always be haters, who don’t want to see you blessed, see you healed, see you happy.
Don’t worry about them; just give god the glory and praise his name.
He is worthy of all praise.
Be encouraged this morning and give all of the praise to God.
