Words of Encouragement

Faith and doubt do not go together; they are mutually exclusive.

The word doubt means an uncertainty of belief or lack of confidence in something; to the Christian life, doubt refers to the unbelief in God and his word.

Jesus encourages in Matthew 14:22-33 us to not allow doubt to drown us.

Doubt sees the obstacles; faith sees the way.

Doubt sees the darksome night; faith sees the day.

Doubt dreads to take the step, faith soars on high.

Doubt whispers, “who believes?” Faith answers, i believe.”

DOUBT BLINDS US FROM SEEING JESUS

The disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy wave

They were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “it’s a ghost!”

Doubt is fueled not by what’s really there, but by what might be, what we imagine could be

Doubt can propel you towards faith in God, or it can paralyze you from fulfilling god's purpose for your life

The truth is no matter how long we’ve been Christians, or how strongly we feel about our faith in God, we all have doubt

Having doubt doesn’t mean we’re bad or that we don’t love Jesus. It just means we’re human. Because it’s human nature to doubt what we can’t see.

DOUBT IS A DISTRACTION

Life is full of distractions.

Satan uses distractions to stop us from accomplishing great things, making progress in life or even growing in our relationship with God.

Distractions causes us to miss out on God’s word, voice, presence, blessings, opportunities and plan for our lives.

Peter answered the call, he’s out of the boat, he’s walking on the water and he is on his way to Jesus but then he gets distracted!

He took his eyes off Jesus and started focusing on the winds and waves.

Then he started sinking. Any time we take our eyes off Jesus, we are going down.

DOUBT STEMS FROM UNBELIEF

We see that peter is now walking on top of the water too

How could he be defying the laws of physics? Because Peter was now in line with Jesus the problem was no longer defining him

This allowed him to walk on top of his problem, as opposed to sinking underneath it

The problem hasn’t disappeared, it is just no longer defining him

He wasn’t looking at the storm

He has brought them through the most difficult of times; and yet, let some trouble come, and they begin to doubt

Trust is an important aspect of being a Christian

Be encouraged and don’t allow doubt to drown you.
